Korea's No. 1 Pigment Maker: Wooshin Pigment's Story of Challenge and Growth with KB

Founded in 1977, Wooshin Pigment was Korea's first privately owned pigment specialist and today holds the No. 1 share of the domestic pigment market. Its pigments are used in products from major Korean brands including KCC, Samhwa Paints, Noroo Paint, and Jebipyo Paint.

Early days: backing from KB

"We had the factory, but no money. That's when KB lent us 200 million won." CEO Jang Sung-sook recalls the early days of the company, when she'd secured the factory site but couldn't afford to open the production line. Without that KB loan, she says, the first line would have started up even later than it did.

Competitiveness proven through technology

Wooshin Pigment won an industrial packaging award for cutting production costs by more than 30%, and it now supplies high-purity, high-heat-resistant pigments and water-based non-toxic colorants at home and abroad. The company has also pushed hard on eco-friendly colorants, launching the AQUALOR® WPZ series of zero-VOC water-based colorants, now used everywhere from architectural paints to eco-friendly toy coatings.

CEO Jang Sung-sook received the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit in recognition of that innovation — the result of more than 40 years focused on pigments alone.

Next stop: the global market

Having already reached No. 1 at home, Wooshin Pigment is now looking abroad. The company that took its first step forward with KB's support is now setting its sights on bringing 'the color of Korea' to the world.
